Some presidential bets to hold joint presser on Easter Sunday; reason unclear

Some presidential candidates announced they will hold a joint press conference on Easter Sunday, although the reason behind it is unclear.

The camps of at least three presidential hopefuls – Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Ping Lacson, and former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales – on Saturday sent invites for a press conference set on the following day, 11 a.m., at the Manila Peninsula Hotel.

In its advisory, Lacson’s media bureau said a total of five presidential candidates will be attending.

Two other presidential bets, Senator Manny Pacquiao and former presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, were also mentioned in the list of expected attendees.

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 1:48 p.m.) — Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso and former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales are not withdrawing from the presidential race, not even for each other.

The three held a joint press conference at the Peninsula Manila in Makati City on Sunday to stress that they will finish the campaign despite supposed attempts to have them withdraw, supposedly in favor of survey second-placer Vice President Leni Robredo.

He also said that people who don't want to support Marcos and those who don't want to support Robredo can choose from among the other candidates at the press conference.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 17) — Presidential candidates Panfilo Lacson, Isko Moreno and Norberto Gonzales have identified the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo as the one behind efforts to push for their withdrawal from the 2022 polls.

"They have been working on it since from the start," Lacson said in a joint press conference by the three presidential bets on Sunday.

Lacson then recalled the unification efforts made by Robredo before the filing of certificate of candidacy in October last year.
