GREENBRIER COUNTY W. VA. (WVVA) - Over the past weeks, West Virginia has been hosting vaccination events for the 80 and older population, which has lead to the Mountain State leading the way in vaccine distribution.

In Monday's press briefing, Governor Jim Justice announced the vaccination numbers.

So far, over 92,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered, and more than 13,000 people have now received both the first and second dose of the vaccine.

Governor Justice said these numbers show that per capita, the state is leading the way for vaccine distribution.

Stephen Baldwin, the chairman of the greater Greenbrier COVID-19 task force, said another reason for vaccination success so far is that local leaders are doing their part to have the vaccinations available now, rather than waiting.

Even though people are getting vaccinated more quickly, case numbers are also rising throughout the state.

West Virginia leads other states for most cases weekly per capita, but Governor Justice said the state will keep distributing vaccines, which will continue with the elderly population.
