DAVAO CITY More than 3,000 children benefited on Monday from the feeding program through the mobile kitchen of the Davao de Oro provincial government.

In a statement on Tuesday, the provincial government said its Kusina ng Kalinga (KNK) program aims to feed about 14,000 children with nutritious foods to ease the impact of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis on families.

Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said the feeding program through the province's "mobile kitchen" aims to promote the spirit of volunteerism.

"We will continue to feed the children who need nutritious food especially that we are facing a health crisis now, said Uy, who allocated his salary to support the program along with other staff from the provincial governor's office.

Uy assured all the targeted 14,000 children will all be accommodated.

The mobile kitchen was first piloted in Barangay Union, Monkayo town on April 24, where a total of 1,000 children were given nutritious foods.

On April 27, the mobile kitchen team went to New Bataan Resettlement Project-1 in Barangay San Roque, New Bataan town where 1,432 children availed of the feeding program.

The provincial government also thanked the Davao Multipurpose Seed Producers Cooperative (DAMSEPCO) for the 23 sacks of rice donation for the continuing operation of the mobile kitchen. (PNA)
