MANILA, Philippines Two new missile-capable gunboats of the Philippine Navy were formally commissioned into service yesterday.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin led the commissioning rites of the BRP Nestor Acero and BRP Lolinato To-ong at the Naval Station Jose Andrada in Manila.

The two ships are fast attack interdiction craft-missiles (FAIC-Ms) vessels, delivered by Israel Shipyards Ltd. last September.

They were named in honor of two Armed Forces of the Philippines Medal of Valor awardees and are part of the FAIC acquisition project under the revised AFP modernization program-horizon 2.

The Philippine Navy has commissioned two new fast attack interdiction craft during a ceremony at Naval Station Jose Andrada in Manila on Monday.

Navy chief Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr. said BRP Nestor Acero (PG901) and BRP Lolinato To-ong (PG902) may be deployed to the West Philippine Sea (WPS) and southern Philippines areas.

According to Adaci, BRP Nestor Acero and PG902 are only two of the nine fast attack interdiction craft missile vessels acquired from Israel Shipyards Limited for the price of P10 billion under the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program.

Adaci said four other vessels will be delivered in 2023 and the remaining three will be constructed at the naval shipyard in the country in 2024.

Aside from these nine vessels, Adaci said the Navy is planning to have 15 additional Acero class boats. KBK, GMA Integrated News

Last 12 October 2022, newly acquired vessels of the Philippine Navy - Fast Attack Interdiction Crafts BRP NESTOR ACERO(PG901) and BRP LOLINATO TO-ONG (PG902) get underway last 12 October 2022 for their endurance run.

They departed from East Commodore Posadas Wharf, Cavite enroute to the Area of Operation of Naval Forces West and Naval Forces Central and returned safely to Cavite City on 17 October 2022. Onboard during the conduct of the endurance run is the ISL technical team and training staff, head of the TIAC team, COMMO ALFONSO F TORRES JR PN, CDR JONATHAN M LAYNO PN Director Fleet Operations Readiness Training and Evaluation Group(FORTEG) and CDR RONEL T RACILES PN(GSC), Director Littoral Combat Training Squadron.
