Eight Philippine flag-draped caskets carrying the remains of soldiers killed in Sulu clash were flown to Manila on Saturday night (April 18, 2020). They will be flown to their respective hometowns tomorrow morning.

The fallen soldiers were accorded military honors at Villamor Air Base. Defense Sec. Lorenzana, AFP chief Gen. Santos, Army chief Lt. Gen. Gapay and Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Paredes paid tribute to the soldiers. Some grieving family members were also present. (Sourced photos from 250th Presidential Airlift Wing) | Via @FMangosingINQ on Twitter

Burned during the ceremony were faded, worn, and torn Philippine flags collected from various groups, institutions, and individuals in the city. The ashes were buried on the building’s front lawn.

According to Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8491 (The Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines), a flag worn out through wear and tear will not be thrown away but solemnly burned to avoid misuse or desecration.
