MANILA The first batch of the six Turkish-made T129 "ATAK" attack helicopters will arrive in December, Philippine Air Force (PAF) commander Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes said Tuesday night.

"Deadly...coming this December. The T129 Attack Helicopter of the Philippine Air Force," Paredes said in a Facebook post.

He did not give other details on the arrival of the helicopters.

The six T129 attack helicopters will be acquired for a total contract price of USD269,388,862 (about PHP12.9 billion) from the Turkish Aerospace Industries through a government-to-government mode of procurement under Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act.

The T129 is a twin-engine, tandem seat, multi-role, all-weather attack helicopter based on the Agusta A129 Mangusta platform and is designed for advanced attack and reconnaissance missions in hot and high environments and rough geography in both day and night conditions.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana signed the contract for the acquisition of the Turkish attack helicopters in July last year.

The PAF is looking to acquire dedicated but affordable attack helicopters to beef up its fleet of lightly-armed helicopters, such as the MG-520 and AW-109E, which are being used for counter-terror and ground support missions. (PNA)

A slightly more definitive timeline, probably before XMas.

MANILA The Department of National Defense (DND) on Friday confirmed that two of the six Turkish-made T129 "ATAK" attack helicopters will be delivered sometime this December.

"The first two units of the T129 'ATAK' are expected to be delivered later this month. A DND team is leaving for Turkey for pre-delivery inspection," DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said in a message to the Philippine News Agency.

He said the DND team is expected to leave the country by the middle of next week.

No other details were immediately available.

Turkish attack choppers not yet in PH, DND clarifies

Quote
MANILA The Department of National Defense (DND) on Monday clarified that the two Turkish-made T129 "ATAK" attack helicopters have yet to arrive in the country, despite reports circulating online that these have arrived on Jan. 8.

"Contrary to information circulating online, as of 9 January 2021 the first two units of TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) T129 ATAK Helicopters have not arrived in (the) country," DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said in a statement.

...

The DND did not provide a reason why the delivery of the helicopters did not push through as scheduled.

MANILA The two Turkish-made T129 "Atak" attack helicopters delivered to the country last March are now "fully mission capable", the Philippine Air Force (PAF) said Tuesday.

Col. Maynard Mariano, PAF spokesperson, said this means that the air assets are ready for their role as a "strike aircraft, with the crew and the pilots done with the training and ready to be employed in areas needed."

The two helicopters were declared "fully mission capable" shortly after the Sanay Tudla 2 exercises, held from May 16 to 24 at the Col. Ernesto Rabina Air Base in Capas, Tarlac, were concluded.

The T129s are assigned to the PAF's 15th Strike Wing based at the Major Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point, Cavite City.

"As for the geographic assignment, this is something that we cannot disclose," Mariano said.
