PCG: Joint personnel of BRP Capones (MRRV 4404) and DF 314 successfully rescued a total of thirty (30) fishermen onboard capsized fishing banca SM, owned and operated by Mr. Abdul Matba at vicinity 4 nautical miles East South East of Great Sta.Cruz Island, Zamboanga City at 6:38 AM yesterday, 15 October.

Initial reports revealed that at 3:30 AM of said date, the wife of the boat captain, Mrs. Delia Matba informed Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zamboanga regarding the incident.

Accordingly, F/B SM encountered big waves, strong winds and heavy rains that caused her outrigger to break and was dragged towards the adjacent island of Tictabon, Zamboanga City and eventually capsized.

Upon receipt of the report, CGS Zamboanga coordinated with Coast Guard District South Western Mindanao (CGDSWM). CGDSWM then directed BRP Capones (MRRV 4404) and DF 314 for the conduct of search and rescue (SAR) operations. PCG SAR team immediately proceeded to the said vicinity, sighted the fishermen clinging to their capsized fishing banca and subsequently rescued all thirty (30) of them.

Likewise, PCG medical team rendered necessary medical assistance to the survivors and were later brought to CGS Zamboanga for proper profiling and disposition.
