PHL gets 2 more FA-50 fighter jets from Korea; last 2 to arrive before July
Published April 26, 2017 3:04pm

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday received two more FA-50 fighter jets in Clark Air Base, Pampanga from a South Korean manufacturer.

At a news conference, PAF spokesperson Col. Antonio Francisco said the aircraft, with tail number 009 and 010, touched down in Clark around 11:20 a.m. and was welcomed by 1st Air Division commander Maj. Gen. Enrique Reyes.

Francisco said Air Logistics Command chief Maj. Gen. Arnold Mancita and the air base's council of elder commanders also welcomed the fighter jets.

The delivery of the jets brings the total number of FA-50s in the Armed Forces' inventory to 10 following last month's arrival of two FA-50s.

Francisco said the military hopes the two remaining fighters jets, with tail number 011 and 012, would be delivered in time for the PAF's founding anniversary in July.

"We are expecting that hopefully by next month, pero hindi pa natin alam yung delivery schedule, exact date, pero within the year... hinahabol natin before the anniversary ng Air Force," he said.

DND to acquire PGMs for FA-50PHs in Russia
 May 30, 2017 Share
MANILA, May 30 --- The Department of National Defense (DND) is looking at the possibility of acquiring precision-guided munitions (PGMs) from Russia to further develop the FA-50PHs' ground-attack capability which can be used against a variety of threat groups.

DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said PGMs are quite useful as they can be delivered with "pinpoint accuracy" against ground targets by the South Korean-made FA-50PHs "Fighting Eagle" jet aircraft.

"(PGMs) are more expensive than conventional ammo but are economical in the long run as we will use less ammo (target is hit within five meter radius) and collateral damage is minimized if not completely eliminated," Lorenzana told the PNA Monday.

The DND chief did not give specifics on what types of PGMs it is planning to evaluate for possible Philippine acquisition and use.

The Philippine Air Force, by May 31, will complete its 12 FA-50PH order from Korea Aerospace Industries worth PHP18.9 billion.

Lorenzana earlier said the Philippines is planning to acquire weapons, including advanced diesel-electric submarines from Russia.

"Yes, we have plans to purchase weapons from them. They have also very sophisticated and advanced weaponry. We will look into them, we have not decided what equipment but off the bat, we are looking, we would like to develop our submarine force so we will look into their submarines one of these days," he added.

>Lorenzana was with President Rodrigo Duterte on his official trip to Russia last week. The trip was cut short because of the ongoing clash between security forces and the Maute terror Group in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur last week. (Priam F. Nepomuceno/PNA)

He just said "jets". Something like, when I finish my term, there will be 24 jets that i will leave to you, etc.

He also added that we may get them from two countries, which he said he will not mention. He also added that does not want second hand ships, he wants brand new.

Korea Aerospace Industries Co. (KAI), the country's sole aircraft manufacturer, said Tuesday it has completed the delivery of light attack aircraft to the Philippines. The aerospace company said it delivered the 12 FA-50PH light attack aircraft three months earlier than scheduled and expressed hope the Southeast Asian country will place an additional order for the same jets down the road.

At an event held in the Philippines to celebrate the deployment of the attack aircraft to its air force Tuesday, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said his government will consider purchasing another 12 FA-50PH aircraft during his six-year term that began June 30 last year.
