CAVITE CITY – In what seems to be a male-dominated field, the Naval Shipyard has set another milestone as a female officer in the person of Ens Marie Antonnette D Casugo PN was designated as the first female NAVSHIP project officer to supervise and monitor the Emergency Drydocking Repair project of BRP Federico Martir (PC385) at Naic, Cavite

Project officers play a vital role during the implementation phase of repair projects of PN vessels and are responsible for their successful completion. The challenge is now in the hands of Ens Casugo PN, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy “Alagad ng Lahing Pinagbigkis ng Tapang at Lakas” (Alab-Tala) Class of 2018. Far more than the physical and mental capabilities, the character and discipline she earned at the academe, particularly the positive mental attitude and stability to work under pressure, are major attributes that qualified her to the designation. To better equip herself and further hone her knowledge and technical skills in the field of maintenance and repair operations of PN vessels, the new proud “Yardera” took the unit’s Ship Superintendent Training Course and recently completed the Naval Engineering and Damage Control Officer Course (NEDCOC) at the Naval Sea Systems Training Center (NSSTC). These undertakings made Ens A Casugo PN a now bonafide member of the Naval Systems Engineering for Hull, Electrical and Machinery Field of Specialization (NSE-HME FOS) family.

With this development, the unit aims to train and deploy more female project officers in the future, as the unit believes in empowering women, by strengthening their capabilities and promoting their role in the organization, recognizing them as an integral support to the accomplishment of the unit’s mandated mission.
