https://www.facebook.com/groups/rpdefense/permalink/929766777109170/We are here to help each other separate fact from fiction. All discussions on the group must either be based on authoritative personal knowledge by individuals whose professions -- past or present -- provide them with DIRECT insight into discussion topics, or be derived from authoritative sources that can either be shared or exposed.
The loudest voices must be those of the knowledgeable. The group is most effective if it creates a welcoming platform for subject matter experts to share their knowledge with the rest of us. It is, therefore, important that such sharings not be drowned out by ignorant and/or ill-informed commentary.
Opinions are not facts. No matter how strongly an individual feels about an issue, if that individual cannot discuss his/her opinion in a fact-based manner (see above) then they should simply keep those opinions to themselves.
This is not a forum for the onion-skinned. Ideas and concepts are refined and perfected through factual discussion and debate. Once an individual shares an opinion or position, that individual not only assumes responsibility for explaining that position to all community members, but must also be prepared to face questions and counter arguments. If an individual is not willing to have his/her preconceived notions questions, then that individual is better off keeping his/her opinions to himself/herself.
Balance begets better discussions and benefits everyone. Equally knowledgeable people can still have opposing views. The forum sides with no one. But the healthiest discussion often stem from balanced discussions so that is state to which the community aspires. This also means that behavior that restricts enlightened debate will not be tolerated such as:
- Racist remarks
- Threats against a fellow member
- Religious bigotry. That covers everything from setting up a religious bully pulpit, as well as blindly bashing all people of faith
Membership is a privilege not a right. Continued membership signifies willingness to submit to the group’s rules, norms, and posting culture. If at any point an individual feels that these guidelines are excessively restrictive . . . then that individual must exercise his/her right to leave the group.
