Bejaan, Alejandrino, and Alestre presented Bangsamoro Republic-Moro National Liberation Front identification cards and claimed that they were set to meet with United Nations member Capt. James Gothrie.  ???

Some of the suspects were wearing Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines uniforms with different patches.

Troops recover armored van seized by Maute gunmen | GMA news - August 9, 2017
Quote
Westmincom spokesperson Captain Jo-ann Petinglay said the vehicle was recovered at an abandoned building in the war-torn city after heavy gunfire between the militants and the military on August 4.

"The vehicle was recovered by troops of the Joint Task Force Marawi following heavy gunfire with Maute remnants in a strategic structure previously held by terrorists," Petinglay said.

The blue armored vehicle, owned by the  Davao Security and Investigation Agency Inc., went viral on social media as the terrorists hoisted an ISIS flag on it as they roam Marawi City.

Petinglay said soldiers also saw the Maute group use the same vehicle in attacking government law enforcers.

Tear gas was meant for riot control, probably the use of it is illegal in warfare.

Not sure though  :-\

AFP has been using tear gas in Marawi since June as per GMA news report http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/615099/maute-isis-bandits-launch-drone-in-marawi-amid-allahu-akbar-chants/story/

I think the problem really is not how to flush out the Maute's from their position but just imagine how can you distinguished between the bad guys from their hostages.

What if the Maute's switch clothing with their hostages and let them carry rifles with empty magazines? This is number one in any hostage takers to-do-list.

Or considering these groups seem eager to meet their 72 virgins, simply strapped the remaining hostages with IEDs for the final bang in blaze of glory.

The last leg in Marawi siege is already becoming a hostage scenario. Perhaps Duterte can request for that 'knockout' gas from his idol Pres. Putin of Russia. I read that gas was a derivative of 'Fentanyl'.  ;D

Tear gas is not a weapon of mass destruction the way real chemical weapons are.
