The first carrier, Type-001 Liaoning, was commissioned in 2012. She was actually an unfinished Russian ship which China purchased. China's second carrier, Shandong, was built locally and launched in 2017. She is expected to be commissioned soon. Shangdong is a slightly modified design, designated Type-001A. The third carrier, which is under construction in Shanghai, is a new Type-002 design. And the 4th carrier will also be a Type-002.< Edited >
