MILEX 2019: Belarus upgrades mid-range MRL inventory
22 May 2019

Uragan-M MRLs have already been exported to some customers. "I would point out that our vehicle has been tested in combat," said the source, without specifying any foreign operators of the upgraded system.

The 9P140MB Uragan-M is being updated by the Volatavto company. Unlike the basic Uragan, the upgraded vehicle is based on the chassis of the Belarusian-made MAZ-631705 6×6 wheeled truck. It has received a protected cabin, automated fire control system (FCS), and modern communications suite. "The crew [can] fire the rockets without leaving the cabin," said the source.

The Uragan-M has retained the original 16-tube launch unit of the 9P140, with the source confirming that the upgraded system "fires the rockets of the baseline Uragan" and "is fully reloaded in no more than 14 minutes".

The 9P140MB's combat vehicle weighs 23,100 kg and is manned by a four-strong crew. The system has a firing range of 10-36 km, a top speed of 80 km/h, and a cruising range of up to 1,350 km.

Belarus unveils upgraded Polonez-M MRL system
07 June 2019

The modernised V-300RK Polonez-M MRL was shown at the recent MILEX 2019 exhibition in Minsk with an eight-cell launcher and a full-size mock-up of the upgraded A300 tactical surface-to-surface missile.

The Polonez-M is mounted on a modernised MZKT-7930-3013 8x8 heavy chassis, which is equipped with a new gearbox and life support system, and has heavier payload capacity.

The vehicle typically carries eight canistered A300 missiles, which have a range of between 120 km and 290 km with a circular error probable (CEP) not exceeding 30 m. However, it is also capable of firing the earlier A200 munition, the firing range of which lies between 50 km and 200 km. Accordingly, the Polonez-M can simultaneously engage up to eight targets in a 20 km x 20 km area.

South Korea’s Poniard guided rocket system passes Pentagon’s Foreign Comparative Testing
07 April 2020

The 70 mm (2.75 inch) system, which was developed by the Agency for Defense Development and South Korean defence company LIG Nex1 to simultaneously engage multiple fast-moving maritime targets, is currently operated by the Republic of Korea Marine Corps (RoKMC) as a mobile coastal defence system and is expected to replace older South Korean coastal defence systems by 2024.

The Poniard, which has now the become the first such South Korean system to pass the Pentagon's FCT, has a 'fire-and-forget' capability, a stated maximum range of 8 km, and can carry a total of 36 rockets in two separate launchers (18 rockets in each launcher).

As operated by the RoKMC the Poniard is integrated into a 6×6 Kia KM250 military truck that is equipped with the necessary target detection and launch control systems that allow it to operate as a standalone system.

South Korea’s DAPA announced on 7 April that the locally developed Poniard guided rocket system has successfully completed the Pentagon’s Foreign Comparative Testing programme: a move that enables it to enter the US arms procurement market. Source: DAPA

Indian MoD orders six regiments' worth of Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers

The Indian government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced on 31 August that the deal includes procuring 114 launchers with automated gun alignment and positioning systems (AGAPSs) and 45 command posts from Tata Power and Larsen & Toubro.

A total of 330 high-mobility vehicles - worth a combined INR8.42 billion - will be manufactured by BEML Limited at its Palakkad plant in Kerala, with deliveries expected to be completed within three years. The majority of these vehicles, however, will not be fitted with launchers, but will instead be used to carry additional rockets for the Pinaka systems.

Meanwhile, the rockets, which have an estimated range of 38-40 km, will be manufactured by private-sector company Economic Explosives Limited in Mumbai. The rockets had previously been made by the state-owned Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).
