« on: September 25, 2016, 12:09:37 AM »
From last June: And China begins a campaign to further isolate Taiwan since the DPP's Tsai became president...which may be just the push Taiwan needs to officially go the independence route, justifying a future PLA invasion.

China cuts contact with Taiwan liaison body over Tsai

BEIJING, China - Beijing said Saturday it had cut off contact with the main Taiwan liaison body because of President Tsai Ing-wen's refusal to endorse the concept of a single Chinese nation, ratcheting up pressure on the new Taiwanese leader.

In a statement posted on the website of the Cabinet's Taiwan Affairs Office, spokesman An Fengshan said contacts between bodies responsible for ties had been suspended starting from Tsai's May 20 inauguration.

"Because the Taiwan side has been unable to confirm the '92 consensus that embodies the common political foundation of the one-China principle, the mechanism for contact and communication between the two sides has already been suspended," the statement quoted An as saying.

Chinese bombers and spy planes have flown around Taiwan, the air force said on 19 April as Taipei accused Beijing of trying to stoke regional tensions with its military drills.

China sees the democratically-governed island as a renegade part of its territory to be brought back into the fold and has not ruled out reunification by force.

H-6K bombers, Su-30 and J-11 fighters and reconnaissance aircraft took part in a patrol around Taiwan, air force spokesman Shen Jinke told the official Xinhua news agency

Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said the exercise served as a warning against those pushing for Taiwanese independence.
