MANILA - The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said Friday operations in the Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas stations of LRT-2 will remain suspended for at least 9 months, a day after fire hit one of the train's power transformers.

"It would take us, based on the assessment of our technical personnel, a minimum of 9 months to return the full line operations in Line 2," Laywer Hernando Cabrera, LRTA spokesperson, said.

LRTA public relations manager Lyn Janeo said operations at LRT-2 stations from Cubao to Recto and vice versa may resume next week.

THE Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of arson in the recent fire at the LRT Line 2.

During the emergency meeting of the House Committee on Transportation, LRTA Deputy Administrator for Operations and Engineering Paul Chua said there was no foul play or act of terrorism in the fire incident last Thursday.

Half of train sets

Half of the 14 train sets of the LRT 2 were trapped in the Santolan depot. This means that at most the train will be operating at half of its capacity of roughly 250,000 passengers daily.

On normal days, it serves roughly 240,000 per day via nine train sets.

Meanwhile, Canar admitted before lawmakers that the LRTA has no disaster recovery plan to follow when there is an incident like the recent fire at the LRT Line 2.
