The acronym for the High-Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle -- HMMVW -- was virtually unpronounceable. Hence the nickname "Humvee", which stuck even more that the vehicle's official name: Hummer.

Humvees have been in AFP service since the early 90s. They were so prevalent, even our RCDGs could gain access to one periodically. I still remember when the sight of them in PA colors was "an event".

Lately, however, the Kia KM-450s have been the more commonly seen truck, thanks to the AFP having acquired in-house maintenance capability from Kia Motors.

It'll be interesting to see how long this type will still be around.

As per SIPRI.org, a set of 25 uparmored Humvees were received in 2013
