U.S. airborne troops seek to replace old Humvee by Oshkosh L-ATV Light All-Terrain Vehicle | Army Recognition - 23 October 2016
Quote
American airborne troops seek to replace old Humvee 4x4 light tactical vehicle by Oshkosh Defense Light Combat All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV). For more than 30 years, the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle has been the go-to vehicle for U.S. forces wishing to put boots and tires on the ground.

< snipped >

The L-ATV is a 4x4 armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the U.S. Company Oshkosh Defense. The affordable Oshkosh L-ATV incorporates field-proven technologies, advanced armor solutions and expeditionary levels of mobility to redefine safety and performance standards for the U.S. Armed Forces and international militaries.

The L-ATV will come in two types, a four-passenger combat vehicle and a two-seat combat support vehicle. It carries a maximum weight of 15,639 pounds, which makes it light enough to be transported by helicopter and more suited for off-road mobility.

Joint Light Tactical Vehicle tested by Army and USMC | Army Recognition - 05 March 2018
Quote
The JLTV is a joint military program that will partially replace the Humvee, officially designated High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), with a family of more survivable vehicles with greater payload, according Randall Fincher, test officer with the U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), based out of Fort Hood, Texas. The Army, lead for the JLTV portfolio, plans to purchase some 49,000 JLTVs while the Marine Corps plans to purchase 9,000.

< snipped >

A test team of over 200 military, civilian and contract workers from USAOTC, will collect data during the JLTV Multi-Service Operational Test and Evaluation (MOTE), with support from the Marine Corps Operational Test and Evaluation Agency (MCOTEA).

Data collected will be used to address operational effectiveness, suitability and survivability of the JLTV in its intended environment. The operationally realistic scenarios will allow the test unit Marines and Soldiers to tell the Department of Defense how well the system supports their mission execution. Thirty-nine production representative vehicles will amass about 30,000 miles during simulated combat operations.

Gunner Protection Kit from HMMWVs mounted on US Marines JLTV | Army Recognition - 31 July 2018
Quote
As a cost-savings measure, U.S. Marines removed Gunner’s Protection Kit from HMMWVs and installed on Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV). A harvesting effort by Program Executive Officer Land Systems and Marine Corps Systems Command could save the Corps millions and make one of its newest vehicles more survivable.

The installation is part of a cost-savings plan to harvest Gunner’s Protection Kits and other equipment from older High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles and increase the JLTV’s survivability.

In the spring, logisticians and other program personnel from Infantry Weapons conducted a Proof of Principle, or PoP, going step by step through the process of removing a Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shield—part of the GPK family of systems—from a HMMWV and placing it on a JLTV. The MCTAGS will be installed on the Heavy Guns Carrier JLTV variant.

The PoP will help the program office develop, verify and publish a modification instruction to guide the Corps through the installation process, said Kevin Marion, a logistics management specialist in Infantry Weapons.

The JLTV program office has completed similar PoP efforts with the Improved TOW GPK, or I-TGPK, which will be installed on the Close Combat Weapons Carrier variant of the JLTV. The CCWC can be armed with TOW—tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided—missiles.

AUSA 2018: JLTV Oshkosh fitted with IMI Iron Fist Active Protection System | Army Recognition - 11 October 2018 07:36
Quote
The IF-LD APS of IMI is a hard-kill system that addresses a variety of threats such as short-range RPGs, anti-tank missiles, and more. The system's sensor suit consists of two sensing technologies for enhansing the vehicle's situational awareness and minimizing false alarms while enabling the vehicle to respond and counter attack against the aggressor as quickly and accurately as possible.

The IF-LD utilizes a blast interceptor for an effective and safe interception process. This results in the destruction of the threat without initiation its warhead while minimizing residual penetration. Due to its modular design which does not require penetrating the vehicle's roof, the IF-LD provides an operational solution for all types of Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) from light armored vehicles up to MBTs.

IMI is in cooperation on its APS line of business with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS) for the North American Markets.

U.S. Soldiers provide new improvements for JLTV Joint Light Tactical Vehicle | Army Recognition - 04 May 2019 06:04
Quote
The “Big 4” refers to the new capability added to the truck with these enhancements - increased situational awareness (roughly 250% larger rear windows and the Forward Facing Camera), added muffler, troop seat kit, and the JLTV-trailer. Soldiers took part in the test as drivers, truck commanders, rear seat and troop seat passengers.

The muffler was added to reduce engine noise and make it easier for the crew to communicate, a front-facing camera helps ensure operators can better see terrain near the vehicle, especially going over embankments, and the troop seat kit and trailer add to the personnel and cargo carrying capacity and give Soldiers a trailer capable of handling the same increased speed over rough terrain as the JLTV itself.

U.S. soldiers also mentioned how the reduced engine noise from the new mufflers made it easier to communicate inside the vehicle.

One of the features that is now standard on JLTVs is a 250% larger rear window. The vehicle on top has the new window and was used during testing at Fort Stewart, Ga. 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division Soldiers. (Picture source U.S. DoD)

Rafael demos Spike LR from JLTV
14 June 2019

The demonstration firing, conducted during the 16th Spike Users Club Meeting (SUCM) in Slovenia from 4-6 June, was the first time that a Spike capability has been fired from the JLTV platform.

The SUCM is an annual event jointly organised by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency and a different host user-country; the SUCM community comprises 31 countries, 18 of which are European Union and NATO members.

During the demonstration, a Spike long range (LR) - fired from a Spike vehicle-mounted missile launcher integrated with a Rafael Samson Mini MLS dual-axis gyro-stabilised remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) mounted on a JLTV - engaged a static representative main battle-tank target at a range of 2.3 km at the Slovenian army's firing range in Postojna, southwestern Slovenia. During the SUCM, members of the Slovenian Armed Forces also fired a tripod-mounted Spike LR from an enclosed space using imaging infrared (IIR) guidance.

Spike LR is a medium-range (4 km) fire-and-forget/fire-observe-and-update, guided multipurpose missile. Weighing 13.7 kg and measuring 1.2 m in length, Spike LR is furnished with a gimballed dual-channel (IIR/charged coupled device) electro-optic guidance assembly, which includes a fibre-optic datalink, a tandem high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT)/multipurpose blast fragmentation warhead, and a solid propellent rocket motor. The LR variant can be manportable tripod-launched, or integrated with light vehicles, armoured vehicles, helicopters, and naval platforms. Furthermore, any platform already integrated with the LR is also automatically provisioned for the latest Spike LR2 variant.
