The objective of the Project is to expand the economic sphere of Metro Manila and reduce air pollution by constructing a commuter line interval, running from Malolos, the capital city of Bulacan Province at the north of Metro Manila to Tutuban in the City of Manila. Its total length is 37.9 kilometers, and there will be 10 stations throughout the section. The project is to enhance the connectivity of the transportation network and alleviating the serious traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

Scope of Works

The North–South Commuter Railway (NCSR) Project involves constructing 37.6 km of double track standard gauge railway from Malolos (Bulacan) to Tutuban (Manila), with a total of 10 Stations. The railway structure comprises 35.4 km elevated viaduct and 2.2 km embankment, and a Depot that will be located at Valenzuela. The travel time between Malolos and Tutuban will be approximately 35 minutes running at a maximum speed of 120 km/hr, and headways between trains of approximately 6 minutes.

MANILA -- The Caloocan to Dela Rosa Makati line of the the Philippine National Railways will be reopened after 20 years, the Department of Transportation said.

The soft opening is scheduled for Wednesday with the minimum fare set at P15, the DoTr said in its Facebook page.

The initial run will stop at the following stations: 10th Avenue, 5th Avenue, Solis, Blumentritt, Espana, Sta. Mesa and Dela Rosa, the PNR said.

"It will be the fastest and most cost efficient means of transportation from Caloocan to Makati with running time of 37 minutes," the PNR said.

The Philippine National Railways resumed its Sangandaan, Caloocan-FTI Taguig route on Monday, to the delight of passengers.

Ian Hidalgo, one of the route's passengers on Monday, said it usually takes him one and a half hour to get to Taguig by bus from Caloocan. With the new route, his travel time was cut to just around 30 minutes.

Mel Pucan, another passenger, said taking the PNR train costs less, from P47 by bus to less than P30 via PNR.

MANILA -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) on Monday launched its railway line from Sangandaan in Caloocan City to FTI in Taguig City.

The rail line will traverse the following stations: Sangandaan, Asistio, 5th Avenue, Solis, Blumentritt, Espana, Sta. Mesa, Paco, Dela Rosa, Edsa and FTI vice versa with a minimum fare of PHP15.

The trips are scheduled as follows:

Morning: 5:11 am and 7:11 am (Sangandaan-FTI); 6:12 am and 8:12 am (FTI-Sangandaan)

Afternoon: 3:11 pm and 5:11 pm (Sangandaan-FTI); 4:12 pm and 6:12 pm (FTI-Sangandaan)

“Eight trains with a capacity of 850 would be fielded on the shuttle line and is expected to accommodate 7,000 passengers,” the Department of Transportation said in a statement.

The new railway line will extend the existing PNR Caloocan-dela Rosa line, which was opened last August 1.

The PNR Caloocan-dela Rosa line will be utilized for commuters going from Caloocan to Makati and vice versa, as the PNR pursues the construction of the North-South Commuter Line or the PNR North 1, connecting Tutuban to Malolos.

This was shut down during the the late 90’s to early 2000’s to pave the way for the construction of the Northrail project, which was envisioned to connect Metro Manila to Malolos, Bulacan and Clark, Pampanga. (PNA)

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) started yesterday pre-construction activities for the first phase of the Philippine National Railways line linking Metro Manila to Clark.

During the groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday in Marilao, Bulacan for the Advance Contruction Mobilization for Phase 1 of the PNR Clark Railway, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said the government has decided to begin pre-construction works such as site clearing, realignment or relocation of utility lines, as well as acquisition of right of way to get the project moving.

The project is seen to ease   vehicular traffic in Metro Manila and speed up travel to north of the metropolis, especially key areas of Central Luzon where modern townships are being developed.

The first phase of the PNR Clark Railway covers the 38-kilometer segment from Tutuban in Manila to Malolos in Bulacan.

The Tutuban to Malolos segment, which is also known as the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project, was approved by the National Economic and Development Authority Board in February 2015.

In November of the same year, the Japanese official development assistance loan for the project was signed.

The Tutuban to Malolos segment will have 10 stations and is expected to serve 340,000 passengers daily.

Once the project is completed, commuters from Tutuban are expected to reach Malolos in 35 minutes.

Japan International Cooperation Agency representative Susumo Ito said in the same event the project would be a major game changer in terms of opening opportunities in the economies surrounding of  Metro Manila, particularly in the North.

These concrete sleepers are intended for raising the tracks between Laong Laan-Dimasalang and Samson Road to utilize the reopening of the Acacia-Gov. Pascual in Malabon-Sangandaan in the Caloocan segment of PNR Mainline North.

This will extend the service of the newly reopened PNR Caloocan-Dela Rosa, Makati service to FTI in Taguig which provide alternative mode of transportation to the public and will help decongest traffic during rush hour.

MARILAO, Bulacan — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) began Friday various preparations for the construction of the first phase of the PNR Clark railway project that will run from Tutuban in Manila to Malolos in Bulacan province.

Pre-construction activities include site clearing, grading of unleveled surfaces, and demolition of obstructions to the PNR line.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the department is committed to pursuing measures, such as doing parallel activities, to fast-track the completion of the railway project.

Tugade noted that based on previous practices, site clearing works had to wait after the awarding of a project to a general contractor.

“DOTr understands the need to complete this project faster. That is why we pursued these works parallel with the procurement of the general contractor, which is scheduled to be selected by the second quarter of 2018 for PNR Clark Phase 1,” Tugade said in his address during the commencement of works for the railway project in Barangay Tabing-Ilog in Marilao, Bulacan.

Tugade also appealed to Bulacan’s local government officials to assist the department in right-of-way issues by informing their constituents of the benefits of the railway system.

“Tulungan ninyo kami sa right of way. Hindi namin kakayanin mag-isa yan. Tulungan ninyo kami na masabihan ang ating mga kababayan na tatamaan ng proyekto para ito sa ikabubuti ng sambayanang Pilipino (We seek your help in settling right-of-way issues. We cannot do this alone. Help us inform those who might be affected by the construction of the railway project that this is for the benefit of our countrymen,” Tugade said.

Phase 1 of the PNR Clark Project involves the construction of the rail system along the 38-km. segment from Tutuban, Manila to Malolos, Bulacan. Once completed in 2021, it will have 10 stations and is expected to serve an estimated 340,000 passengers daily.
