DoTr to keep Mindanao railway single track, keeps options open
February 5, 2020 | 10:23 pm

THE Department of Transportation (DoTr) said it will proceed with a single-track and non-electrified system configuration of the Mindanao Railway Project, overruling appeals from the Davao Regional Development Council to adopt a two-track, electric configuration.

“We have an investment approval. Again, we are an implementing agency. We will implement what has been approved. We will implement it in a manner that makes it as much as possible simpler to upgrade or later on to convert it to a double-track and electrified system. That’s what we will do,” Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John R. Batan told BusinessWorld in a recent interview.

More tags in Bato, Toril. This photo was not taken by the property owner, so out of respect, identifiable information has been removed.

A community member sent the following photo to ask if this is a valid notice, so we forwarded to this to the DOTR. The Project Manager of the Mindanao Railway Project office confirms that this notice is legitimate. This indicates that the property was unattended when the initial census was taken, and this notice specifies when they would try again. Out of respect of the privacy of the member who sent shared this notice their tag number has been edited.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION

Meanwhile, Project Manager Clipton J. Solamo said they are aiming to complete all the pre-construction activities by the third quarter this year. This involves right-of-way (ROW) and site acquisition, area inspections, project alignment, and meetings with officials and residents of affected communities. “We are targeting to finish the pre-construction works within the third quarter of this year,” Mr. Solamo said in a text message. The National Economic and Development Authority approved a single track, diesel-run railway system for the initial segment, but Mr. Eje said they are acquiring a 40-meter wide ROW for the entire line as a provision for a possible upgrade to a dual track electric system in the future. — Maya M. A community member shared the following sketch plan of a property in Catalunan Grande that will be affected by the Mindanao Railway Project. To protect the owner's privacy, the owner's name, the specific lot, and other identifiers were removed. Note that half of the property will be taken up by the right-of-way.

I sent that message to both the Pag-IBIG official email address as well as the Mindanao Railway Project Office (MRPO). The MRPO responded first.

From the looks of it, a lot of the balls are in Pag-IBIG's court. After I forwarded them the MRPO's email, I finally got the following result
