LOS BAŇOS, Laguna – Five Best SETUP (Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program) Adoptors and 24 SETUP graduates were named during the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Calabarzon’s 54th Anniversary Celebration held at the DOST science complex in Barangay Timugan here Monday.

DOST-Calabarzon Regional Director Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, and Assistant Director Dr. Lydia Manguiat led the presentation of the “Best SETUP Adoptor” awardees per province from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon, who have adopted the science and technology (S&T) innovations of the regional agency.
Plaques of recognition were awarded to Delfa’s Food Products supported by the Provincial S&T Center (PSTC) - Cavite; Gem See’s Cakeshop of PSTC-Laguna; Panaderia Pantoja Inc. of PSTC-Batangas; Jamerika of PSTC-Rizal; and Pasiolco Agriventures of PSTC-Quezon.

The SETUP is a nationwide strategy to encourage micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to upgrade their technologies; and implement innovations at their level, resulting in strengthening the country’s innovation system.

The program is in sync with President Rodrigo Duterte’s 0 + 10 socio-economic agenda “to promote science, technology and the creative arts to enhance innovation and creative capacity towards self-sustaining inclusive development”.

Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog Secretary Jose Maria Nicomedes F. Hernandez hailed the DOST milestone event as a celebration of achievements that have made a significant impact on the economic activities and have improved the lives of the Filipino people.

He said that in line with the President’s vision, an essential component of the country’s true transformation involves a long-term initiative of development, sustainable, diversified and advance technology to help improve lives.
