The age of "polarization"
« on: December 27, 2017, 01:04:40 AM »
In a polarized world, people lose sight of the middle ground and retreat to the extreme sides of an argument. Blind hatred on one side, and wholesale treason on the other. As a consequence, they lose sight of ACTUAL solutions to the problem. #useyourhead

You admin couldn't have placed it any better. I never thought China as an enemy, but an aggressor on fronts that are not militaristic in nature. Even the US can be considered as such. At the end of the day, these big players have their own agenda, and it's our responsibility as citizens to be informed so that we can push our leaders to make the most pragmatic of choices.

Two people who have access to ALL the relevant facts, and even have the same cranial capacity, can still at look at the same problem come up with completely opposite conclusions. That is why open, honest, debate is very important. By watching these two equally matched protagonists, we formulate our own conclusions based on our own experiences. The more vigorous debate, the better the learning -- provided we do not engage in logical fallacies.

Often we run into community members who don't want to be bothered by the facts, and contribute nothing to the conversation other than noise. With a Facebook group this large, that is just par for the course, and the mod team puts up with it. However, one particular individual fits all of the above buckets and goes even further -- bad mouths the community at venues where it cannot defend itself. Free-expression is essential for a republic like ours, and I -- for one -- will defend your right to express your views as you see fit (within reason of course. For example, freedom of expression doesn't give you the right to yell "fire" in a crowded theater for fun). That freedom of expression, however, goes both ways.

In a polarized time, unpopular truths are demonized, and popular falsehoods are parroted like gospel.

Yet another sign of the times.

The following group issued the following challenge to anyone who claimed to understand what the administration was doing.

I DO NOT consider myself what folks have derisively called "DDS". But I have always considered it my patriotic duty to at least listen to what ANY administration is trying to say, and to withhold judgement till proper evaluation of the assertions. Respect for the Office of the President, and what is stands for in our system of jurisprudence deserves that much.

With this administration I recognize a policy pattern that the conventional press either fails or refuses to pickup. So I wrote the following thesis that is hosted here:

So I shared the link above as a response, and challenged the poster for a point-by-point rebuttal to it. I posted it three times. It was deleted all those time without response.

You challenge people to explain their POV . . . because you assume that they can't . . . and can't handle a mature discussion?
