Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract with Daewoo Ship building and Marine Engineering Korea,for development and integration of combat management and radar systems on a new frigate for the Royal Thai Navy.The order amounts to MSEK 850.

The contract comprises of combat management system and radar system.
Saab is the combat system integrator. In addition to the supply of its own systems, Saab is also responsible for procurement and integrations of third party systems.

Deliveries of ship equipment are scheduled to commence in 2016 and production will take place in Sweden, Denmark, Thailand and Australia.

Thailand ordered an Saab upgrade package for their Naresuan class frigates back in 2011. The order was for
2 x Saab Sea Giraffe AMB, 2 x CEROS 200 FCR, 2 x Saab 9LV CMS Mk4 and 2 x TDL for a total cost of MSEK 484, which works out to USD48 million for two ships.[1]

ANZAC Frigate Modernisation Reaches Final Milestones | Saab Group - 31 May 2011

The Defence and Security company Saab is one of the prime contractors for the ANZAC frigate ASMD project which has reached its most important milestone with the successful firing of an Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile from HMAS PERTH off Jervis Bay, Australia.

The Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) program was commenced in 2004 to redesign and modernise the ship’s critical combat capability. Its prime role was to prepare the ship’s defences for the potential missile threats of the 21st centrury.

Another vital part of the upgrade has been to enhance the fully integrated combat management system performed by Saab’s 9LV 453 Mk 3E. These enhancements include:

• New 30-inch widescreen operator consoles, with large touch input displays operating commercial Microsoft® operating systems,
• a completely redesigned operations room layout with 10 consoles to improve management and coordination of operations,
• large screen displays on the bulkheads showing intelligence, CCTV and status information,
• redundant Gigabit LANs for greater data capacity,
• new operator modes for fighter control, and
• ulitisation of advanced control modes for the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles.

9LV at the Heart of LHD | Saab Group - 22 March 2015

At the heart of the newest and largest warship in the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Canberra, lies the Saab 9LV Combat Management System.

Commissioned on 28 November 2014 the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) is fitted with a Saab 9LV Combat Management System similar to the ANZAC FFH Class frigates. The CMS and weapon and sensor suite will be tasked with air and surface surveillance, self defence against asymetric threats, support for helicopter and watercraft operations, and an integrated Multi-Link capability.

New functionality added to the Saab 9LV CMS family for LHD includes support for Amphibious Operations and updates to allow integration of the new sensors and weapons. The Amphibious Operations suite also includes Aircraft Traffic Control (ATC) functions for the embarked LHD helicopters as well as potentially supporting other operational and civilian aircraft. The team at Saab Australia was responsible for the overall development and integration of the CMS.

Overall the Saab equipment onboard the LHD includes the 9LV Combat System with 10 consoles and the Sea Giraffe AMB 3D Air Search Radar.

Saab to Deliver Integrated Combat System for New Australian Replenishment Ships | Saab Group - 28 October 2016

Defence and security company Saab has signed a contract with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia for the delivery of an integrated combat system for the two new Royal Australian Navy replenishment ships. The contract value is SEK 226 million.

The integrated combat system includes procurement of combat system equipment including the helicopter control radar and decoy system. Saab will also provide combat system engineering services including system design, integration and integrated logistic support.

The majority of the combat system engineering work will be undertaken in Adelaide with installation and acceptance testing of equipment to be completed in Spain.

The Saab 9LV system is already in service with both the Anzac and Canberra Class ships and the selection of this capability for the two new replenishment ships further cements 9LV as the combat management system of choice for the Royal Australian Navy.
