JianLian-9 (JL-9) is an advance trainer or light attack aircraft designed and manufactured by the Guizhou Aircraft Industry Corporation (GAIC) of China. The aircraft was designed for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF).

Its export version is designated as FTC-2000 (Fighter Trainer-2000) Mountain Eagle (Shanying). The JL-9 was derived from its forerunner, the JJ-7 jet trainer.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has unveiled an export version of its low-cost FTC-2000 supersonic trainer. The aircraft – known in China as the JL-9 Shanying – is the latest in a series of platforms that are being adapted by AVIC and its subsidiaries specifically for international markets.

AVIC said the FTC-2000, which was rolled out by its subsidiary Guizhou Aircraft Industries Corporation (GAIC) on 5 June, will be delivered to an overseas client following trials. AVIC did not disclose the customer but it is thought to be Sudan. In China, the aircraft is operated by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) and Navy (PLAN).

Hu Jianxing, deputy manager and chief designer at GAIC was quoted by the official Xinhua news agency as saying that the Chinese and export versions of the FTC-2000 are both powered by the Chinese developed WP-13 engines.

He added that major differences between the Chinese and export versions of the aircraft include various avionics systems, navigation guidance systems, and extra hardpoints to carry additional payloads. The latter, he said, is intended to meet “overseas clients’ demands for multiple missions”.

The first export version of the China-developed FTC-2000 light attack aircraft ordered by Sudan rolled off the production line of the state-owned aircraft developer GAIC in Anshun in southwest China's Guizhou Province Monday, June 5. With its desert-camouflage paint appearance, the FTC-2000 was developed by the Guizhou Aviation Industry Corporation under the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

As one of the first batch of its model in the global-military trade market, it will be delivered to overseas clients after necessary procedures and tests, according to AVIC.

Sudan ordered six FTC-2000 jets in 2016, the director general of Guizhou Aircraft Industries Corporation (GAIC) said in an interview with China Aviation News on November 3, 2016.
