« on: May 12, 2017, 09:08:26 AM »
From Combat Fleets of the World, 15th Edition

First four were ordered in 9-89 for $9.4M; the fifth was ordered in 4-90 and three more in 8-90. In 3-93 Halter received a $36.2M contract to build four more in the U.S., provide four kits to a yard in the Philippines, and assist in the construction three more in a Philippine yard; in 6-94 another 12 more ordered for $27.5M, with seven to be built by AG&P Shipyard in the Philippines. DF-379 and 380 were launched 29-4-95 by AG&P. The original goal was 35 total, but that curtailed for lack of funds. Were originally intended to operate in flotillas of seven, each attached to a larger patrol boat acting as leader.

Japanese navy joins PH-US exercises near WPS for first time
By: Frances Mangosing - Reporter / @FMangosingINQINQUIRER.net / 10:37 PM October 14, 2019

MANILA, Philippines — Japan’s navy will participate for the first time in the joint maritime exercises of the Philippines and the United States near the West Philippine Sea.

The third iteration of week-long Maritime Training Activity (MTA) Sama-Sama kicked off in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Monday.

< Edited >

The MTA-Sama Sama (formerly called CARAT exercise) will consist of both shore-based and at-sea activities designed to allow participating navies to undertake complex maritime training utilizing diverse naval platforms and operating areas, the US Pacific Fleet said in a statement.

It will mark the first time that the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force will actually participate in the drills. Last year, they joined the Sama-Sama as observers during the training exercises.

At-sea phase drills in the coming days include visit, board, search and seizure operations, division tactics, search and rescue exercise, helicopter deck landing qualifications, anti-air and surface warfare tracking, and vessel of interest tracking.

Shore-phased events include subject matter expert exchanges, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, explosive ordinance disposal, among others.

The Philippine Navy will deploy BRP Andres Bonifacio, BRP Teotimo FIgoracion, an Augusta Westland AW-109 helicopter and a Beechcraft King Air C-90.

The US Navy assets will use some of its assets including littoral combat ship USS Montgomery, the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown, the Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport USNS Millinocket, the Safeguard-class salvage ship USNS Salvor, and a P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

The US Coast Guard cutter USCG Stratton will also join the drills, marking the first known deployment of the US Coast Guard ship in Philippine waters after the departure of USCG Bertholf in the Western Pacific.
