« on: May 11, 2017, 04:05:00 AM »
From Combat Fleets of the World, 15th Edition

First four were ordered in 9-89 for $9.4M; the fifth was ordered in 4-90 and three more in 8-90. In 3-93 Halter received a $36.2M contract to build four more in the U.S., provide four kits to a yard in the Philippines, and assist in the construction three more in a Philippine yard; in 6-94 another 12 more ordered for $27.5M, with seven to be built by AG&P Shipyard in the Philippines. DF-379 and 380 were launched 29-4-95 by AG&P. The original goal was 35 total, but that curtailed for lack of funds. Were originally intended to operate in flotillas of seven, each attached to a larger patrol boat acting as leader.

EL NIDO, PALAWAN – The BRP Federico Martir (PC385) led by her Commanding Officer, CDR Virgilio C De Guzman PN(GSC), responded to a request to render assistance to Motor Banca (MBCA) ClLEOPATRA, a tourist/passenger banca. The banca suffered engine problem which prevented it from further sailing and has been stranded in the vicinity 1870 yards NE off Miniloc Island, El Nido, Palawan. At about 04:44 p.m. of March 23, 2018, while PC385 was conducting maritime patrol at vicinity 1870 yards NE off Miniloc Island or at Lat 11 degrees 09.60’ N and long 119 degrees 20.41 E, personnel of PC385 noticed passengers of a motor banca later identified as MBCA CLEOPATRA with three (3) crew and twenty (20) Pilipino tourist/passengers waving their hands for assistance while said banca is already dead on the water.

PC385 immediately maneuvered to her location and rendered necessary assistance. Initial assessment conducted by the ship’s crew to the motor banca, it was found out that engine failure may have been caused by overheating.

Said Patrol Craft also informed Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at El Nido, Palawan regarding the situation and letter sent its aluminum boat to assist PC385. At about 04:52 p.m., PC385 towed the MBCA CLEOPATRA enroute to El Nido, Palawan and allowed her passenger to board the PC385 and the PCG boat for comfort. At around 06:09 pm, PC385 together with the towed MBCA and recued passengers, arrived safely at El Nido Pier, El Nido, Palawan. Naval Forces West, through its naval assets, has once again provided appropriate response to a vessel in distress in Palawan.
