BRP Emilio Aguinaldo (PG-140)
« on: May 11, 2017, 03:10:31 AM »
At 215 tons displacement, the two ships if the Aguinaldo class are the largest indigenous patrol craft built by the Philippine Navy to date. Both were manufactured at Fort San Felipe, patterned after the smaller German-built Kagitingan class patrol craft. BRP Emilio Aguinaldo (PG-140) entered service on November 21, 1990, while BRP Antonio Luna (PG-141) was launched in 1992, entered service roughly 8 years later.

Related to our latest blog entry regarding the retirement of BRP Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo (PG-140). One of our contributor community member sent this photo of the hull bottom of the said patrol vessel. This is the primary reason why the ship was retired earlier than expected. While the hull surface, despite having 3,000 or so holes, was said to be repairable, the effects have already compromised the ship's structural integrity. This was actually discussed last April 2016 when MaxDefense posted on the retirement of BRP Gen. Antonio Luna (PG-141) which was also plagued with the same problem.
