Based on photo comparisons, BRP Agta (LC 290) is ex-HMAS Balikpapan L-126.  Forward hawsehole (mooring rope hole) is lower compared to the one abaft it.

The Philippine Navy (PN), through the Naval Reserve Command and Fleet-Marine Ready Force, simultaneously held the Exercise Pagsasama 2016 and Exercise “Pagsisikap 2016” from Nov. 14-18 at Naval Base Heracleo Alano, Marine Barracks Gregorio Lim, Ternate, Cavite and in the vicinity of Manila Bay involving more or less 350 PN personnel. Exercise “Pagsasama” is a maritime exercise that aims to enhance the interoperability of the Philippine Navy reservists and regular force in National Capital Region, Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon during emergency situations, while Exercise Pagsisikap is a Fleet-Marine amphibious exercise involving Sailors, Marines and Reservists from different PN Units. The purpose of the amphibious exercise are to develop an amphibious-capable force for range of operations, to develop capability to support and sustain the amphibious force ashore; and to develop capability for mobility and counter-mobility operations in support of amphibious operations. Enhancing capability through this exercise will enable the Fleet and Marine forces to assert more efficiency in the conduct of its mandated task. It also hopes to test and assess the tactical level communications between the PN assets, as well as to strengthen mutual relationship and interoperability of the participants.

Civil Military Operations Unit- Central together with the LC 290 (BRP Agta) provided personnel for the hauling of the over 700 boxes of biscuits from ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 Cebu. The said boxes of biscuits are bound to Iloilo and Bacolod and will be distributed during the upcoming social civic activties.

Philippine Navy Amphibious Raid Exercise at Sipalay City

Poblacion Beach, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental– Central Command (CENTCOM) through the Naval Forces Central (NFC), Philippine Navy (PN) held here an amphibious raid exercise where it simulate a military operation launched from the sea by an amphibious force, embarked from a ship or craft with the primary purpose of introducing a landing force ashore to project ground power onto a hostile or potentially hostile shore at a designated landing beach to accomplish their assigned mission. The exercise was executed by the landing force from 8th Marine Brigade (Reserve) of Naval Reserve Center – Western Visayas (NRCWV) aboard the Landing Craft (LC290) – BRP AGTA) of the Philippine Navy. The landing force was composed of One (1) Company (One Hundred (100) pers from NRCen-Western Visayas, Thirty (30) pers from NRCen-EV) and they had simultaneously conducted disembarkation procedures and squad maneuvers. Their raiding component also eliminated the remaining enemies and subsequently rescued civilian hostages during the hostage crisis scenario of the activity.

Patrol Craft (PC114 – BRP SALVADOR ABCEDE) was utilized also to serve as Support Vessel that conducted simulated Naval Gun Fire Support (NGFS) during the said exercise. One (1) Seal Team with two (2) Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs NAVSOU 5) served as the unit conducting the beach head clearing prior the landing of the main landing force. Fire Fighting Team, Medical Team, and PNP SWAT then arrived at the scene after the area is cleared and declared safe in order to restore peace and order that was struck at a moment during the hostage taking crisis scenario.

The Commander, Naval Forces Central also the Commander of Maritime Joint Task Force Area Shield (MJTF “AS”), Commodore Loumer P Bernabe AFP spearheaded the event and was witnessed by the Commander Naval Reserve Command, Brigadier General Arthur M Biyo AFP, the Governor of Negros Occidental, Hon Alfredo G Maraan Jr., the Mayor of Sipalay City Hon. Oscar C. Montilla Jr. and other prominent personalities from the AFP, PNP, LGUs and other community sectors.

The conduct of such exercise serves as a response to the Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy’s (FOIC, PN) guidance to capacitate and develop the reserve force for it to mirror the active component in order to reach the level of seamless integration of the reserve force into the regular force. Said exercise will also support Central Command (CENTCOM) Campaign Plan “AbanteVisayas” that will be focusing its operations in Negros and Samar Islands in line with the AFPs simultaneous intensified Internal Security Operations to CENTCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Calarian, Zamboanga City – Sailors and Marines received awards and recognition during the conduct of Flag Raising Ceremony on January 7, 2019 at Headquarters Naval Forces Western Mindanao.

As a year starter, Naval Forces Western Mindanao gave recognition to the Fleet-Marine Team for their exceptional deeds in the performance of their duty, their shared sacrifices and persistent efforts made in the previous year.

The Commander Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Rear Admiral Rene V Medina AFP with the Deputy Commander for Fleet Operations, CAPT Richard N Gonzaga PN(GSC) led the awarding of Bronze Cross Medal to the gallant sailors and marines of Naval task Group Sulu/Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu (PMRF-S) and BRP Waray (LC 288) for the successful conduct of Amphibious Operations/Focused Military Operations at Minis Island, Patikul, Sulu on Dec 13, 2018; Military Merit Medal with Spearhead Device to the Officers and men of BRP Agta (LC 290), BRP Juan Magluyan (PC392), Naval Special Operations Unit 6 (NAVSOU6), 82nd Inshore Boat Company and Multipurpose Attack Craft (BA 484) for carrying out naval operations with other Fleet-Marine units in Minis Island, Patikul, Sulu and a Military Commendation Medal is also given to the members of support elements of NTG Sulu and PMRF Sulu. The operation at Minis Island resulted to the neutralization of seven ASG members, apprehension of 10 individuals and recovery of several firearms and military items.

Further, the award of Military Merit Medals with Spearhead Device were also received by the members of the Naval Task Group Sulu/Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu, 83 Inshore Boat Company, IBBN for the conduct of Focused Military Operations in Brgy Libog Kabaw, Panglima Estino, Sulu and Brgy Timpook, Patikul, Sulu held on Oct 26-30, 2018, which resulted in the neutralization of three ASG members and recovery of various war materials.

Military Merit Medals were also given to the officers and men of NFWM, Civil Military Operations Unit-WM, Naval Reserve Center-WM, NAVSOU6, NISG-WM, Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 and BRP Waray for the successful conduct of Community Outreach Program and Propaganda and Counter Violent Extremism (PCVE) at Brgy Doña Consuelo, Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental on Nov 18, 2018. The said activity benefitted a total of 2,137 individuals.

In his message, Rear Adm. Medina commend the troops, “It is just fitting for us to start this year with awards and honors for all the hardwork and sacrifices you had done for the past year to continue our mission as a team, to become strong and credible for our nation as the defenders of the Western Mindanao Frontier.”

“These series of military operations and outreach program wouldn't be successful without the help of everyone, with that, I thank and congratulate all of you”, the Commander NFWM added.

With this accomplishment, NFWM with the Sailors and Marines in Western Mindanao will continue its commitment and dedication in the performance of its mandated task to promote a peaceful, safe and secured Western Mindanao.
